CityViews 12/10/12: Climate Change and Winter Sports/Vivaldi by Candlelight

Segment 1:

A warming climate will devastate the bottom line of the nation’s ski industry. That’s according to an economic study released by the Natural Resource Defense Council and Protect Our Winters. The study states the $12 billion winter tourism industry is in jeopardy by rising temperatures and less snowpack. On Monday, we’ll talk about the study and reaction from the industry.

  • Nathan Rafferty, SkiUtah
  • Laurie Johnson, Natural Resources Defense Council

Segment 2:

For the 30th year, musicians will perform Vivaldi’s classical standard, The Four Seasons, by candlelight. On Monday, we’ll talk about the enduring appeal of these beloved baroque pieces and the genius behind them.

  • Gerald Elias, music director and violinist, Vivaldi by Candlelight
  • David Cowley, oboist, BBC National Orchestra of Wales

The 30th Annual Vivaldi by Candlelight Benefit Concert will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 12 C Street (South Temple), Salt Lake City. Proceeds benefit the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy.
