Israel, Estela and baby Berta Marquez in the Venezuelan Embassy
With 65 million living as refugees and migrants, the world has never had more forcibly displaced people than it does now. In this local, hour-long documentary “Utopiah,” independent producer Tamarra Kemsley traces the journeys of the Marquez and Al-Hasnawy families from their homes in Guatemala and Iraq, to Utah, while addressing the issue of vetting and integration, as well as what compelled these people to leave their countries in the first place.
This program originally aired on Friday December 23rd at 10 AM and 8 PM here on KCPW.
