Products, technology, and even basic ways of doing things inescapably adhere to a life cycle, no different than nature. Our massive dependence on fossil fuels must then necessarily run its course, not because stocks of petroleum will be depleted but because more attractive alternatives will emerge, disrupting and ultimately replacing them. Decline comes to all things. This presentation examines when and how our world’s reliance on fossil fuels naturally changes.
