The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour (Air date: July 9, 2014) – Jane McGonigal is a designer of alternate reality video games – games designed to improve real lives and solve real problems. She makes the case that video games can help people remember things, can hone problem solving skills, keep people healthy, and even prep people to solve real-world global challenges like world hunger, climate change, or the energy crisis. McGonigal authored the 2011 book: Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better And How They Can Change The World. She has created games for organizations such as the American Heart Association, the International Olympics Committee, the World Bank Institute, and the New York Public Library. Jane McGonigal spoke at the Hinckley Institute of Politics, at the University of Utah, on March 7, 2013.
