The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour (Air date: January 7, 2015) – Gasoline these days is cheap. The same remains true for natural gas and coal. Yet, our growing consumption of fossil fuels is recklessly disrupting the global climate. And the low market prices of fossil fuels keeps cleaner alternative energy sources out of reach. That’s why environmental groups and scientists say America needs to tax carbon. A robust and rising carbon tax, advocates say, will transform energy investment and consumption, while sharply reducing the carbon emissions now driving global warming.
Recently a group of scholars and advocates with the Citizens Climate Lobby made the case for a national carbon tax. Logan Mitchell is a post doctoral scholar in Atmospheric sciences at the University of Utah; Anil Seth is an assistant Professor of physics and Astronomy, at the University of Utah; and Richard Buck is student of Economics at the University of Utah. They spoke to room full of students October 30, 2014.
