In the Hive

The future of a contentious water pipeline in Southern Utah

Play

Today on In the Hive we’re checking in on the status of the proposed Lake Powell pipeline, which would move water some 140 miles from the reservoir on the Utah-Arizon border to Washington County, where the population is projected to balloon to more than 500,000 people by the year 2060. Last month, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation released a draft Environmental Impact Statement – or EIS – for the project. The release of the EIS triggers a public comment period, which is open through September 8, 2020. After that, federal officials may permit construction for the contentious project.

On the show today, a state water regulator who is advocating for the pipeline and an environmentalist who opposes it.

Information on providing comment on the Lake Powell pipeline, and on upcoming virtual public meetings, can be found at the Bureau of Reclamation’s website.
