Today on In the Hive we’re checking in on the status of the proposed Lake Powell pipeline, which would move water some 140 miles from the reservoir on the Utah-Arizon border to Washington County, where the population is projected to balloon to more than 500,000 people by the year 2060. Last month, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation released a draft Environmental Impact Statement – or EIS – for the project. The release of the EIS triggers a public comment period, which is open through September 8, 2020. After that, federal officials may permit construction for the contentious project.
On the show today, a state water regulator who is advocating for the pipeline and an environmentalist who opposes it.
