(KCPW News) Leases for oil and gas development on more than 160,000 acres of Utah wilderness were on the auction block this morning. The sale has garnered protests from environmental groups, including a pending lawsuit, and a federal investigation into two of the bidders who apparently tried to stop the bidding process. KCPW's Elizabeth Ziegler went to the auction and filed this report:
The lawsuit contests the sale of 110,000 of the 164,000 acres auctioned off today. It claims the BLM ignored protests from other public land users, the cultural and historical significance of some of the sites, the impact on air and water quality in nearby national parks and the threat of global warming.
