(KCPW News) Home sales in Salt Lake County were at the lowest level in January since at least 1995, when electronic records started being kept. Just 435 homes and condos were sold in the county last month, compared to nearly 650 last year, and more than 1,000 two years ago. But Ryan Kirkham, President of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors, says there is one bit of good news.
"The good news is the median price is almost unchanged from last year. That is really important," he said. "As the home prices fall and consumers and homeowners lose value, that is where the real serious consequences happen in the economy."
However, the median price of $233,000 is down more than 4 percent from two years ago. January is typically the slowest sales month of the year.
