Two Proposals Compete for Future Management of Great Salt Lake

A report on the management of Great Salt Lake has fallen between the cracks during the state’s transition to a new governor. And its recommendations are now being rewritten by one of the most powerful lawmakers in the Utah House of Representatives, creating two competing proposals for how the lake should be managed in the future. KCPW’s Elizabeth Ziegler reports.

State Representative Ben Ferry says it will be crucial to hear the governor’s position on the makeup of the proposed Great Salt Lake Commission. But he doesn’t anticipate that until November, when discussions about pending legislation start to heat up.

  1. I don’t believe that One guy has so much power. Ben Ferry should be removed from office. He only looks out for himself and big business. He has been in office way to long, he thinks he is above the law.

  2. Of course Rep. Ferry would like to remove all stakeholders from the committee so he could do whatever he wants with the lake. He truly does believe he is above the law. To sell us on this he is telling us the elected officials would be more accountable to their constituents??? He knows his constituents will not hold him accountable and re-elect him no matter how corrupt. He is bad for all of Utah including the lake. The fox should not be left alone to watch over the hen house.
