(KCPW News) For the second time in a week, a Republican state senator has used the Internet to spread questionable claims about federal healthcare reform. Earlier this week, we spoke with Senator John Valentine, who claimed that the Affordable Health Choices Act would provide free healthcare to illegal immigrants, a notion that has been thoroughly debunked by the Pulitzer Prize-winning website Politifact.com. Now, Senator Chris Buttars, who says he’s read the 1,000-page bill several times for himself, is repeating several criticisms that were originally made in a chain e-mail, parts of which have also been debunked. But in an interview, Buttars told KCPW’s Jeff Robinson that all he’s doing is asking questions.
You can read the senator’s comments on SenateSite.com here. Then, compare them to a chain e-mail. Hat tip to Salt Lake Tribune reporter Robert Gehrke, who was the first point to out the similarities between Buttars’ post and the e-mail.
