(KCPW News) The largest nonprofit mental health and substance abuse treatment provider in Utah is about to lay off 10 percent of its staff because of reduced federal and state funding. But officials here in Salt Lake County, where Valley Mental Health operates five facilities, are questioning whether the layoffs are necessary right now. KCPW’s Elizabeth Ziegler reports:
Valley Mental Health treats 46 percent of the state’s mental health and substance abuse treatment patients. Salt Lake County pays the nonprofit about $15 million a year in state and county funds to provide services to its residents.
