District 7 Extremely Close, Easy Victory for Proposition One

11.03.2009 by Jeff Robinson

It appears for the moment that Salt Lake City Councilman Soren Simonsen will be back for a second term, after just barely hanging on to his seat in yesterday’s election.

According to the Salt Lake County Clerk’s unofficial election results posted online, the District 7 incumbent beat challenger Lisa Ramsey Adams by nine votes, out of the more than 3,500 votes cast in the race.  But under Utah election law, Adams will be able to request a re-count if she desires.

In District 3, where there was an open seat, Stan Penfold beat Phil Carroll with 52 percent of the vote.  And Carlton Christensen won his bid for a fourth term in District One after taking 67 percent of the vote over Leslie Reynolds-Benns.

Proposition One, a $125 million bond proposal for a new public safety complex, also garnered a large margin of victory with 66 percent of voters saying “yes.”
