Why Didn’t GOP Reform Healthcare Under Bush Administration?
11.03.2009 by Jeff Robinson
(KCPW News) Republicans in the House of Representatives unveiled their version of healthcare reform today, in response to last week’s proposal by the Democratic Party. The question is, why did it take the GOP this long to come up with this plan? Couldn’t they have created such a proposal during the Bush Administration? Hoping to learn more about what the Republicans wants to accomplish when it comes to healthcare reform, KCPW’s Jeff Robinson spoke with freshman Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz. Here’s part one of their two-part conversation.
The U.S. House of Representatives may vote on the Democrats’ healthcare legislation by the end of this week. But whether the vote is two days from now or two years from now, it will get no support from the Republicans in Utah’s Congressional delegation. So are they interested in reforming the healthcare system, or just interested in saying “no” to everything proposed by the Democrats? In part two of our conversation on healthcare reform with Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz today, KCPW’s Jeff Robinson asks him more specific details about the Republican Party’s plan.
Later this week, we’ll talk with Congressman Jim Matheson about whether he will support the Democratic Party’s healthcare legislation in the House.
