McCoy Speculates About Challenging Matheson, but Decides Against It

(KCPW News) Dissatisfaction with Utah Congressman Jim Matheson is growing within the Democratic ranks after his vote against the Democrats’ healthcare reform proposal on Saturday.  He was one of 39 Democrats who said “nay” to the legislation supported by party leaders and President Barack Obama.  Democratic State Senator Scott McCoy weighed in on his own Facebook page, speculating about forming an exploratory committee to run against the conservative Blue Dog next election.  KCPW’s Jeff Robinson asked McCoy if he was serious about challenging Matheson, and learned more about why he’s upset with the congressman.

Senator McCoy contacted KCPW after our interview and said he had decided not to challenge Matheson.  In voting against the health reform bill, Matheson criticized it as a “one-size fits all, nationally-run plan.”
