Sutherland Institute Hosts Religious Freedom Forum
12.10.2009 by Elizabeth Ziegler
(KCPW News) Conservative think-tank the Sutherland Institute is convening a Religious Freedom Forum tonight, touching on the history of American secularism. It’ll also explore the implications of Salt Lake City’s new non-discrimination ordinance, which gives new employment and housing protections to gay and transgender residents while carving out an exemption for religious organizations. Former Republican State Representative LaVar Christensen, who authored constitutional Amendment Three defining marriage as between a man and a woman, will present the historical perspective. KCPW’s Elizabeth Ziegler asked him what he sees as the biggest threat to religious freedom right now.
The Sutherland Institute’s invitation-only Religious Freedom Forum is tonight at 6:30 at their Salt Lake City headquarters in the Crane Building. Sutherland President Paul Mero will talk about Salt Lake City’s nondiscrimination ordinance and whether it will erode religious freedoms here.
