Utah House Speaker Has Ethics Bills at Top of Agenda

(KCPW News) One of the most anticipated pieces of legislation the Utah Legislature will consider this year, creating an independent legislative ethics commission, could be tackled by lawmakers in the first weeks of the 45 day general session. But with the unexpected resignation of the bill’s primary sponsor last week, and a parallel voter initiative gaining momentum, will the ethics bill pass at all? KCPW’s Elizabeth Ziegler has the story.
Last year was a big year for ethics reforms as well, with nearly two dozen proposals introduced. However, only four bills were actually passed by the Legislature and signed into law by then-Governor Jon Huntsman.
