House Passes Bill for Home-Schooled Students After Many Attempts

(KCPW News) It’s taken five years, but a bill that would require school districts to allow home-schooled students to participate in extracurricular activities has now passed the Utah Senate and House. Republican Representative Keith Grover sponsored the bill in the House, which passed it yesterday. He noted that home-schooled students would still need to be academically eligible.
“As far as a student perhaps, in your scenario, wanting to participate in an extracurricular activity and trying to do an end-around, the bill does resolve this problem, and it does state that the student must demonstrate that they are performing academically and have met the requirements of academia and of the district,” said Grover.
The bill was approved in a 63-to-9 vote.
