U.S. Education Secretary Hopes for Emergency Ed. Funding

(KCPW News) Despite Utah lawmakers’ skepticism of the federal government, the State Office of Education continues to pursue hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for education reform through the Race to the Top program. And U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan is hoping Congress will approve $23 billion in emergency education funds to save teacher jobs as state budgets shrink across the nation. KCPW’s Jeff Robinson asked Duncan why this funding is needed, particularly when some school districts still haven’t spent the funds they received from the federal stimulus package passed in 2009.
