Judge Rules Lawsuit Against Salazar Decision Too Late

(KCPW News) Three energy companies and Uintah, Duchesne and Carbon counties have been dealt a blow by a federal judge. They had been seeking to have 77 controversial oil and gas leases that were withdrawn by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar re-instated. U.S. District Judge Dee Benson found the group didn’t file its lawsuit within the 90-day statute of limitations, missing the deadline by just a few days. But Benson’s opinion also states that Salazar overstepped his authority by withdrawing the leases. KCPW’s Jeff Robinson spoke with Steve Bloch, conservation director for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, and Mark Raymond, a commissioner for Uintah County.
