(KCPW News) Most Utah Transit Authority bus routes in Salt Lake County will change in August according to the agency’s final plan to make room for new light rail lines to South Jordan and West Valley City. UTA worked for the past six months, taking public comment to decide how those adjustments should be made. Spokesman Gerry Carpenter says when any adjustments are made, it has a ripple effect throughout.
“Ninety percent of the bus routes in Salt Lake County are going to change in some form or another,” Carpenter says. “So it’s really important for people who use the transit system to go to our website, look at their specific routes and identify how they may be affected.”
Carpenter says public participation allowed the agency to determine which changes would more or less affect riders, and which routes they found to be “hot spots,” meaning…
“…Areas where, if we made changes as proposed it would more adversely affect people than anticipated.” He says. ” So, we were able to maintain service on some of those routes. We were able to reroute other routes to cover areas that would have been adversely affected and we actually created some new connector routes to kind of feed into the new TRAX lines.”
