(KCPW News) Ted Wilson, Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s senior adviser on the environment, is leaving to become Director of Government Relations for Talisker Corporation, which owns Canyons Resort in Park City.

“They wanted, I think, somebody with environmental background,” Wilson said. ” They’re doing a lot of work on that ski hill up there and they need a lot of stuff done to make sure it complies with county and federal and state law and to do those kinds of things so I am kind of excited about it. I think it’s a nice opportunity for me.”

Wilson, a Democrat, says although he and the Governor have disagreed on some environmental issues in the past, he has a lot of respect for him and will continue to serve on Herbert’s Energy Task Force and Balanced Resource Council.

“We did differ on some things but I knew that was the job and I just think the world of Gary Herbert,” Wilson said. He is a wonderful human being. He’s working very hard to really be a fine governor. There is absolutely no political statement here at all. I enjoyed that employment immensely, everyone was great to me.”

Wilson’s last day will be next Friday. In a statement, Governor Herbert said he was a tremendous asset to his team and the state of Utah.
