(KCPW News) eBay is bringing more than 2,000 new jobs to Utah. The online auction giant just announced plans to build a new facility in Draper, saying it will create 2,200 jobs in the state over the next 20 years. Spokesman Michael Frandsen says eBay has been happy with its Utah employees, which is one of the reasons it chose to expand here.
“It’s very important to us that our locations have the right mix of talented, educated teammates, a good quality of life, and a healthy environment for doing business, and this state offers all of these things,” he says.
Frandsen notes the company already employs 1,400 people in Draper who focus on customer service, and says when the new facility opens, different positions will open up.
“Currently within eBay here in Draper, we have roles in the area of customer care, human resources, finance, technology, and so forth, and as we expand here in Draper we will add to the mix of those roles,” says Fransden.
The board of the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Devleopment awarded eBay a tax credit of more than $38 million dollars over 20 years, contingent upon the company expanding its workforce and paying higher-than-average wages for Salt Lake County. eBay also has a data center in South Jordan.
