(KCPW News) Ever since President Bill Clinton created the Grand-Staircase Escalante National Monument in southern Utah, politicians in the state have railed against the authority of the executive branch to unilaterally create such designations on federal public lands. But outdoor recreation and preservation advocates continue to praise the monument. That debate was brought to Congress this week, where it was covered by Thomas Burr, Washington Correspondent for the Salt Lake Tribune and author of Political Cornflakes, a daily, online round-up of Utah politics. KCPW’s Jeff Robinson spoke with him about this week’s hearing on the monument.
