(KCPW News) In just over two weeks, the Utah Legislature will meet in a special session and vote on the final redistricting maps for the Utah Senate, House of Representatives, Congress and the state school board. It’s the culmination of a months-long series of public hearings held across the state and at the Capitol. But have lawmakers been listening to the people of Utah and will they incorporate what they have to say into the final plan? We were joined by Republican Senator Ralph Okerlund of Monroe and Democratic Representative Brian King of Salt Lake City, both of whom sit on the legislature’s redistricting committee.
Also, Democrats in the Utah Legislature are rolling out a new educational plan, dubbed the “Best Schools Initiative,” hoping to garner public support for increasing teacher salaries and investing in classrooms in advance of the 2012 legislative session. We talked about it with Representative Joel Briscoe of Salt Lake City.
