Utah Journalist Reports on “Mingi” Killings in Ethiopia

Journalist Matthew LaPlante

(KCPW News) Among three remote tribes in southern Ethiopia, if an infant is determined to be cursed, or “mingi,” it’s a death sentence. As Utahjournalist Matthew LaPlante learned when he traveled there with Salt Lake Tribune photographer Rick Egan, some are trying to put a stop to the practice of killing these children, but they still have a long road ahead. His reporting has recently been featured in Christianity Today and on CNN.com. KCPW’s Jeff Robinson asked LaPlante how well he was received by the tribes when he visited them.
