More Utah Ski Resorts Set to Open This Week

With 54 inches of snow already on the mountain and another couple feet expected to fall this weekend, Snowbird Ski Resort will open a day earlier than expected on Friday, November 18th.

(KCPW News)  With 54 inches of snow already on the mountain and another couple feet expected to fall this weekend, Snowbird Ski Resort will open a day earlier than expected on Friday, November 18th.  Spokeswoman Emily Moench says despite the avalanche that took the life of extreme skier Jamie Pierre on Snowbird property this week, the resort is safe for visitors.

“People should absolutely feel safe about coming up here,” says Moench. “ Only Gadzoom chairlift is open, and only the Big Emma and Bassackwards runs are open.  We’ve been working hard to prepare the mountain and everything is ready to go.”

Moench says opening the resort early to skiers is becoming a trend at Snowbird, as it has also opened early the last few seasons. Alta Ski Area will also open Friday, while both Solitude and Brighton opened last week.
