Utah Adds Jobs As Unemployment Rate Falls

Utah’s unemployment rate dropped nearly half a percent in October, the largest decline in several months.

(KCPW News)  Utah’s unemployment rate dropped nearly half a percent in October, the largest decline in several months.

According to employment numbers released today by the Department of Workforce Services, the state’s job count for October expanded by 2.6 percent compared to the same month a year ago.  That’s an increase of 31,600 jobs.

The industrial sector added the most jobs, about 7,500 positions, while trade and transportation added 5,200 jobs.

Utah’s unemployment rate sits at 7 percent, an improvement over last month’s 7.4 percent.  However, the DWS says the employment numbers don’t match the drop in unemployment.  This could mean that more people have simply stopped looking for work.
