EnergySolutions will have a hand in cleaning up radioactively contaminated seawater at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan that was used to cool nuclear reactors after an earthquake and tsunami severely damaged the plant last year. The company will now work with Toshiba to decontaminate about 40 million gallons of water.
Salt Lake County Auditor Greg Hawkins released an audit today detailing several types of fraud in the county’s AmeriCorps program, following a year-long investigation jointly conducted with the district attorney’s office and the FBI. It focuses primarily on the actions of Richard Parks, the county’s AmeriCorps program director.
Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s 2012 campaign kickoff last night came only five days after the end of the annual session of the Utah Legislature, which had less discord than in years past, but at least a few sharply divisive issues. The Utah Parent Teacher Association says Utahns are being misinformed about the controversial sex education bill that state lawmakers passed during the 2012 legislative session. HB 363 requires that schools teach abstinence-only sex education, or none at all.
