Utah Delegation Backs Keystone XL Pipeline Motion

(KCPW News) Utah Congressmen Jim Matheson and Jason Chaffetz were among House lawmakers voting this morning in favor of a motion to move the controversial Keystone XL tar sands pipeline forward as part of a transportation bill. Speaking on the House floor last night, Matheson said contrary to what many believe, this product is already being transported to the United States.

“In fact, according to the Congressional Research Service, there are already five other pipelines that are bringing this product from Canada to the United States. In fact, for years, this product has been coming to refineries in the state of Utah, where I’m from, and refined in refineries in North Salt Lake,” he said.

In a statement, the Natural Resources Defense Council slammed today’s House vote, calling it a backdoor attempt to approve the pipeline from Canada.
