(KCPW News) More than 900 students will graduate from Westminster College in Salt Lake City this weekend, becoming part of the largest graduating class in the school’s history. Gary Daynes, Vice President for Strategic Outreach and Enrollment, says that number shows just how much the school has grown. Ten years ago 586 Westminster students received diplomas, compared to this year’s 947.
“This represents growth both among our undergraduate and our graduate programs,” Daynes said. ” Over the past ten years of President Bassis’s presidency, we’ve seen steady increases in the number students who enroll as undergraduates at Westminster and particular growth in students from outside the state of Utah.”
Among this year’s graduates will be nine students from China, who are part of a dual degree partnership Westminster has with Nankai University in China.
“These are students who began their undergraduate work in China and then came to the United States for two years and are receiving an economics degree from Westminster and a degree from Nankai University as well,” said Daynes.
The class of 2012 is made up of students from 31 states and 20 countries. 385 students in the 2012 class will receive graduate degrees. The ceremony takes place Saturday at the Maverik Center in West Valley City.
