(KCPW News) Local designers are using this week to come out of the woodwork. Monday marked the kickoff of the second annual Salt Lake Design Week, an effort to showcase local architecture, graphic design, photography, art and culture.
“I think we’re heavily under estimated,” Thy Doan, who is help coordinating the event said. “I think there is a lot of great design going on and a lot of people who are doing some amazing things so we want to kind of show the city, kind of flex our muscles a little bit.”
Thy Doan, co-president of the Salt Lake Chapter of A-I-G-A, who is helping produce Design Week, says about 36 events are planned including open studio tours and hands-on labs and lectures to engage the community with the world of design.
“Everyone I think can appreciate living in a well-designed and aesthetically pleasing environment and so that is the biggest part I think is awareness,” Doan said.
Salt Lake Design Week runs through October 27 in venues throughout downtown. A link to a complete event schedule is available at KCPW-dot-org.
