(KCPW News)  Republican Governor Gary Herbert will continue to lead the state.  Herbert won his race against Army General Peter Cooke by a margin of more than two-to-one and earned his first full term in office.  Herbert thanked his supporters, saying no matter how the race for the White House turned out, Utah would continue to be a leader.

“I know we are concerned about the election results with Governor Romney.  I’m here to tell you the best hope for America as we go forward is the states. And led by Republican governors, this country will survive, we’ll have a bright future and Utah will be the one to lead by example,” said Herbert.

Herbert took office in 2009 when then Utah Governor Jon Huntsman joined the Obama administration as the ambassador to China, and retained the seat during a special election in 2010.
