Segment 1:

According to one researcher, Mexico’s violent drug war has claimed over 100,000 victims since 2006. The dead include not only drug cartel operatives, but police chiefs, journalists and innocent by-standers. On Tuesday, we’ll get a look inside the cartel movement and industry from veteran journalist Ioan Grillo.

From Somalia to Bosnia, about 25,000 refugees have been resettled in Utah since the 1980s. On Tuesday, we’ll hear about the hurdles refugees face as they transition to life in the U.S and local success stories.

Gerald Brown is one of the featured speakers at “Refugees Among Us,” a human rights event sponsored by the Jewish Community Center on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the JCC, 2 North Medical Dr., Salt Lake City.
