“Comet of the century.”

“Once in a lifetime event.”

These are some of the ways Comet ISON has been described recently. The comet is currently darting through the solar system and is expected to come within 730,000 miles of the Sun’s surface — right around the time when most Americans will be sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner.

If it survives the Sun’s heat, Comet ISON could be one of the brightest comets in recent memory. The question is this: will it hold up, or will it be torn into pieces like a Thanksgiving turkey?

KCPW’s Ryan Cunningham has more.
