(KCPW News) Back in March of last year, same-sex marriage seemed a remote possibility for the state of Utah. That’s when several same-sex Utah couples, including Derek Kitchen and Moudi Sbeity, filed a lawsuit against the state, challenging Utah’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
A lot has changed since last March. After federal judge Robert Shelby ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in December, Utah suddenly became one of the most important battlegrounds in the same-sex marriage debate. Now with news breaking almost daily in the fast-moving legal battle, the argument over gay marriage in Utah seems destined to remain in the spotlight for a while longer.
