The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour (Air date: Jan. 8, 2014) – John de Graaf is a filmmaker, activist, and co-author of Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic (2001) and What’s the Economy For, Anyway?: Why It’s Time to Stop Chasing Growth and Start Pursuing Happiness (2011). He also founded the organization Take Back Your Time, that examines the costs over-work on people and society, and advocates for time balance. de Graaf has consulted officials in Bhutan to advocate a worldwide “New Development Paradigm,” grounded in Bhutan’s principles of “Gross National Happiness” – Bhutan’s alternative to Gross National Product (GDP) for the last 40 years. de Graaf mentions UNICEF’s 2013 report, “Child Well Being in Rich Countries” in his talk.
