The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour (Air date: March 25, 2015) – The Hinckley Institute of Politics recently hosted the 17th Annual Rocco C. and Marion S. Siciliano Forum, Considerations on the Status of the American Society. This year’s theme: “The Future of U.S.-Latin American Relations.” Latin America’s influence on the U.S. is increasingly significant, whether the discussion is trade, alternative fuels, immigration, or illegal drugs. The 10 day conference involved a number of dynamic speakers – too many for us to feature in one program. This program highlights three.
– First Segment: Professor Armando Solorzano teaches Family And Consumer Studies and Ethnic Studies at the University of Utah. His most recent book is We Remember, We Celebrate, We Believe / Recuerdo, Celebración, y Esperanza: Latinos in Utah (published 2014). (Click here to listen to the full talk)
– Second Segment: Mark Neeleman was born in Salt Lake City, and graduated from the University of Utah in 2004. He is passionate about preserving the Amazon Forest and enamored with bamboo as a strong sustainable building material and resource that could ease demands for Amazon timber. – Third Segment: A discussion on the rapidly changing relations between the U.S. and Cuba, and the realities of Cuban Détente. Rachel DeLevie-Orey is a program assistant with the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center.
