The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour (Air date: April 1, 2015) – Recently the Hinckley Institute of Politics hosted a debate: “Was the War in Afghanistan Worth it?” The conflict that has occupied American military forces since 2001 seemingly has no end. Some contend America has achieved its stated goals in Afghanistan – while others feel the mission has been an expensive, and disappointing failure.
Speaking in agreement of the assertion: ‘Was the War in Afghanistan Worth It?’ is Maj. Matt Cavanaugh, a U.S. Army Strategist and Assistant Professor in the Defense & Strategic Studies Program at the U.S. Military Academy; and Rich Stowell, an Afghanistan war veteran and Graduate Teaching Assistant, Department of Communications at the University of Utah.
Speaking in opposition is Professor Amos Guiora, Co-Director of the Center for Global Justice at the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah; and Retired Maj. Roger Perkins, Director of Veterans Support at the University.
Moderating the discussion is Director of the Hinckley Institute, Kirk Jowers.
