September 2012: Matteo

Sounds From The Lounge

KCPW’s Sounds From The Lounge features local and national bands playing in our member lounge at KCPW’s Library Square studios.

September 2012’s featured artist is Matteo

MATTEO, a musical free trade agreement between a Chinese farmer’s market and an American trading post.

Drawing inspiration from rice paddies and mountains, this wholly American foursome has taken sino-american relations into their own hands and strings. Traditional Chinese instruments– guzheng, zhongruan, liuqin, and erhu– converse fluently with acoustic guitar, violin, and upright bass. Matteo keeps their roots in american indie-folk, while allowing the influence of the distinct instruments to saturate the music. The result is a strangely beautiful acoustic blend that navigates over gimmick into a refreshing and genuine sound.
