Utah Reacts to Higher Ed Survey

A new national survey produced mixed results about how people feel about a college education and how much it costs. According to the Pew Research Center, 74 percent of college graduates said their college education was useful in helping them grow intellectually, and 55 percent said it was useful in helping them prepare for a job or career.

University of Utah Recognized for Green Energy Use

The University of Utah is being recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Green Power Challenge” for purchasing the third-largest amount of green electricity of all the colleges and universities in the competition. That amounts to more than 85 million kilowatt-hours, or an estimated 31 percent of the university’s total power consumption.

U of U Holds Meeting Over Election Attacks, Vandalism

Student elections at the University of Utah have taken a nasty turn. Voting is underway, but the two parties along with the University are alarmed over a spree of vandalism and personal attacks that have been going on leading up the election. Anita Kiteau is running for Senate in the VOICE party, and says the party has had to take down at least 50 defaced posters.

Higher Education Costs Going Up

With higher education taking a hit in the 2012 budget approved by the Utah legislature, the costs are likely to be passed on to students. David Buhler, Associate Commissioner of the Utah System of Higher Education, says schools have saved as much as they can over the past three years, but students will ultimately see the effect in their wallets.
