March – April 2014
Virtuosic works by two brilliant composers from Poland are featured on this concert. The haunting beauty of Chopin’s works is unparalleled, while the surreal and impressionist world of Szymanowski Mythes, performed by Ralph Matson, will dazzle listeners. Celena Shafer sings a selection of works from Chopin’s era by Schumann and Bellini.
The splendid music of Utah composer Bruce Quaglia returns to NOVA for a world premiere performance of his new chamber concerto, featuring soloists Brant Bayless and Jason Hardink. Two of the Quaglia works performed relate to his time spent in the spectacular canyon country of southern Utah, while his newest work was inspired by an extended stay in Venice. The virtuosity and fine playing of Utah wind players will be displayed in the concerto as well as in Mozart’s Serenade in E-flat Major.
