Wasatch Public Media (WPM), the Utah nonprofit behind KCPW, was formed on September 12, 2007, for the sole purpose of acquiring KCPW from Community Wireless of Park City (CW) in order to preserve it as a local public radio station. WPM began operating KCPW on May 1, 2008, through an operating agreement with CW. The purchase of KCPW was completed on September 24, 2008.
