Beloved jazz music champion and host Steve Williams is moving to Chicago! Steve and his wife Vicki are relocating to the Windy City to be closer to family, and we wish them the happiest of landings. Needless to say, we’re heartbroken to see them go!
“It’s been a privilege bringing jazz music to KCPW’s listeners these past six years and I’m deeply grateful to the station for carving out a space for the show,” Williams said. “I’m especially thankful for the people who have taken the time to reach out and tell me how much they appreciate the music, that they share my love for jazz. Thank you listeners and KCPW.”
Steve’s radio career goes back more than 40 years. He first worked as a jazzman at KRCL and then spent several decades at KUER before landing at KCPW in 2015 when listeners asked, en masse, to find a place for Steve who was entering semi-retirement. We were happy to cede Sunday nights to “the mayor of jazz city,” and it’s been a lot of fun since.
While next steps are determined, KCPW listeners will still be able to tune in to reruns for at least the next couple months, curated by Steve from his new home.
Station staff are looking into options, and a listener survey is in the works. We’re looking for community feedback to help guide not only what becomes of Sunday evenings but also to help guide other important programming decisions.
In the meantime, tune in for Steve’s last show from 6-10 p.m. on Sunday, April 25th! “I’m going to make this last show a tribute to Chicago and Salt Lake. I’ll always consider Utah home,” Steve told us this week. “Thank you friends!”
To help send Steve off, we want to gather your comments. Tell us how Steve – and the jazz music he’s provided over the years – has impacted you. Send written comments email@example.com.
