Despite being rejected by the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee, Su J. Chon, one of Governor Gary Herbert’s choices to replace two retiring judges in the state’s 3rd District Court, was confirmed by the full Senate Wednesday via a 17-10 vote.

Gill says as an American citizen and a member of the Sikh faith himself, he is both outraged and saddened by the events that occurred. Two weeks after 6-year-old Sierra Newbold was taken from her home, sexually assaulted and drowned in a nearby canal, a suspect has been charged in the case. Yesterday, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill along with West Jordan Police announced 41-year-old Terry Lee Black, a neighbor of the Newbold family, was charged with the crime.
