District Attorney Reflects on Impact of Sikh Temple Shooting

The impact of Sunday’s massacre at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin by a white supremacist hit especially hard for Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. Gill says as an American citizen and a member of the Sikh faith himself, he is both outraged and saddened by the events that occurred. He says hate crimes not only affect the immediate victims but also those who belong to community.

Documents Show Evidence West Valley Police Collected in Powell Case

Eighty-four documents released Tuesday after more than two years of work by The Salt Lake Tribune to obtain them reveal what West Valley City police learned in the days following the December 2009 disappearance of Susan Cox Powell. And they could put pressure on the department to explain why it didn’t arrest her husband Josh Powell, who killed himself and their two young sons earlier this year.

Second Arrest Made in Olympic Oval Thefts

The Unified Police Department arrested a second suspect over the weekend for the July 25th thefts at the Utah Olympic Skating Oval in Kearns. The stolen property includes a number of cell phones, personal items from lockers as well as a pair of custom made skates valued at several thousand dollars. Lieutenant Justin Hoyal says victims are still coming forward reporting stolen property.

West Jordan Police Seeking Theft Victims

Hundreds of theft victims may soon have their items returned after West Jordan Police recovered a stolen motor home. West Jordan Officer Craig Carroll says it was stolen from the city on May 25th and recovered in Farmington on July 17th. That’s when officers found hundreds of stolen documents inside.

Reward Offered in Kitten Cruelty Case

Utah animal welfare groups are offering rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for burying a kitten in concrete in Colorado City, Arizona, the twin city of Hildale, Utah. Barbara Williamson is with Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, where the kitten was brought on May 31st in an effort to save it.

Steven Powell Sentencing Tomorrow

Friday, the father-in-law of missing West Valley City resident Susan Cox Powell will learn the punishment he’ll receive after being convicted of several counts of voyeurism for taking pictures of young girls.
