(KCPW News) Just after the September 11th attacks, radio producer Scott Carrier drove from his home in Salt Lake City to Chicago, asking people along the way if they were ready to go to war. Then he went to Afghanistan, wanting to meet “the enemy” firsthand. His new e-book, Prisoner of Zion, weaves stories from that country with tales from Utah, making sense of how the human race can rise above fear and anger. In part one of a two-part conversation with Carrier today, KCPW’s Jeff Robinson spoke with him about his experiences in Afghanistan, asking about the translator he worked with, Najibullah.
Carrier will narrate his trip to Afghanistan this Friday at 7 p.m. on NPR’s Hearing Voices, which you can listen to on 88.3 & 105.3 FM.
Carrier also recently caught up with many of the people he talked with during his Salt Lake to Chicago trip 10 years ago, asking them if their thoughts had changed on going to war in the last decade. He talks about that in the second part of our interview.
