(KCPW News) Two LGBT rights groups sat down Wednesday with the head of KSL-TV’s parent company, Bonneville International, following the NBC affiliate’s decision not to air “The New Normal,” an upcoming show about a same-sex couple who have a baby through a surrogate mother.
In a joint statement, the TV station said “It was helpful to talk together, to better understand issues, and to be able to discuss the reasons behind our decision to not air ‘The New Normal.’ This was not a decision we made lightly and it was not made because of any single issue including gay characters or LGBT families.”
Equality Utah and the Utah Pride Center say they appreciated the opportunity and accept KSL’s explanation.
Equality Utah Executive Director Brandie Balken says “the core success is having KSL release a tandem statement with us proclaiming the value of LGBT families.” A protest that was planned against KSL Wednesday evening was canceled.

‘The New Normal’ will die on its own within its premiere season due to poor to miserable ratings. Without any help or hindrance from LGBT or KSL.
Personally, I am thankful that a TV station would be so bold in taking a stand.
