(KCPW News) The investigation continues into the disappearance of Brooklyn Gittins, the 13-year-old Herriman girl who sparked a wide spread search earlier this week. Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder says Gittins was found unharmed at a Wal-Mart in South Jordan Thursday night.

“Brooklyn was transported to that location; she went inside and phoned a family member,” Winder said. “Brooklyn was found in exactly the condition we were led to believe she went missing in..that is to say she was without shoes, a coat and her eyeglasses. It was evident she had not been in the elements.”

Winder says even though Gittins likely left her house on her own Tuesday night, the person she was staying with could likely face charges due to her age.

“We are actively seeking a suspect or suspects to determine what’s gone on because we don’t know and we want that answer for the parents and for ourselves and I think for some extent for the community who was involved in this heroic effort,” said Winder.

Over 1,000 volunteers showed up to search for Gittins during the two day search.
