Hinckley Institute Radio Hour – This week on the program, we air a town hall with mayoral candidates, Salt Lake City Councilmember Erin Mendenhall and State Senator Luz Escamilla, to discuss their platforms on policy issues as they relate to LGBTQ communities. This event was put on by the University of Utah LGBT Resource Center as part of their Pride Week, in partnership with the Hinckley Institute. The candidates give opening statements, answered questions on the issues of affordable housing, research and policy, conversion therapy, violence against trans women, environmental racism, religious liberty and non-discrimination and retaining young talent. They also took questions from the audience, followed by their closing statements.
Moderating the discussion is Dr. Kathryn Bond Stockton, Dean of the School of Cultural and Social Transformation at the U and distinguished professor in the English department, along with University of Utah students and event organizers, Cody Carlos Craig and Jae Miner.
This event was recorded on October 28, 2019.
