The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour — This week on the program, we are airing a panel on the impeachment process that compares the two previous impeachment proceedings of President Johnson and President Clinton with the ongoing impeachment of President Donald Trump.
In December, the House of Representatives impeached President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Articles of impeachment were then handed over to the Senate, where, over the last week, House managers made their case over the course of three days. The President’s defense team was then given the same time to argue on behalf of the president. After these opening statements, Senators will be given two days to ask questions before a vote on the last day of January, whether to include new documents and witness testimonies.
To put this impeachment process into historical, political and legal perspective are Robert Adler, distinguished professor at the SJ Quinney College of Law; Jim Curry, associate professor of political science at the U; and Jeremy Pope, associate professor of the BYU Political Science Department. Moderating the panel is Jason Perry, Director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics.
