Devastation in Puerto Rico, migrants in Martha’s Vineyard and the stock trading ban held up in Congress

Both Sides of the Aisle – Former Utah Rep. Ben McAdams fills in for Natalie Gochnour in The Political Center and is joined on The Right by John Dougall, Utah State Auditor, and on The Left by Shireen Ghorbani, former Salt Lake County Council member. They discuss Hurricane Fiona hitting Puerto Rico, the growing threat of climate change and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis shipping Texas migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. They also discuss Utah’s divestment from BlackRock due to their environmental investments, a letter sent by Utah legislators threatening abortion providers with future prosecution and the stalled bill to ban insider stock trading by U.S. legislators and their family members.

There were many claims here of DeSantis “misleading people”, “lying”, and participating in “human trafficking”. It’s interesting that DeSantis has produced legal documents signed by the voluntary members outlining what was happening, yet some in this show seem to have only listened to left partisan conjecture on the subject.

Also I find it interesting that when talking about “Environmental, Social, and Governance” factors considered, the left leaning members here never mentioned anything but climate aka environmental considerations. For example, a social scoring factor is: “Do employees earn a living wage?” A governance scoring factor is “Does board composition represent diverse backgrounds and perspectives?”

To dismiss these very politically charged ideas influencing investments as only “fulfilling fiduciary duties” is laughable.
